Our Primary school day
A calm, purposeful start, with clear routines that help children feel settled and ready to learn.
The Primary school day starts at 08:45 and finishes at 15:15, Monday to Friday.
Pupils may arrive from 08:35 for our soft start, giving children time to come into school, settle into class and be ready for learning at 08:45.
Primary school hours: 08:45 to 15:15, Monday to Friday. Soft start begins at 08:35. The compulsory school week is 32.5 hours.

Arriving at school
Pupils should arrive between 08:35 and 08:45. Our soft start gives children time to come into school, settle into class and prepare calmly for the day ahead.
Children should be in class and ready for learning by 08:45. Good punctuality helps pupils begin positively and ensures they do not miss important learning or routines.
A day of learning and growing
Each day combines core learning, wider curriculum subjects, break time, lunchtime, worship and the routines that help children develop confidence and independence.
Reading, writing, mathematics and communication have a strong place in the Primary day, alongside subjects and experiences that help children learn about themselves, others and the wider world.
How the day develops as children grow
Children’s experience develops as they move through Primary, with routines and expectations growing alongside their confidence and independence.
Reception
In Reception, children are supported through clear routines, adult led teaching, purposeful play, exploration and time to practise new skills.
Children take part in phonics, early reading, writing, mathematics, wider learning, worship, play, lunch and afternoon learning. The day is designed to help children feel settled, build relationships and grow in independence.
Years 1 and 2
In Years 1 and 2, children continue to build strong foundations in reading, writing, mathematics, phonics and communication.
Their day also includes wider curriculum learning, worship, break time and lunch, with clear routines helping pupils develop growing confidence and independence.
Years 3 to 6
In Years 3 to 6, pupils continue developing as readers, writers, mathematicians and confident learners.
The day includes core learning, wider curriculum subjects, worship, break time and lunch, with pupils taking increasing responsibility for their learning and routines.
As pupils progress through Key Stage 2, these routines also help prepare them for the expectations of upper Primary and, eventually, the move into Secondary school.
Attendance and punctuality
Good attendance and punctuality help children make the most of school life.
If your child is unwell or unable to attend school, please contact the school as soon as possible and follow the school’s attendance procedures.
Lunch and the wider school day
Children have a lunch break during the school day. Information about school meals, menus and lunch arrangements can be found on our school dinners page.
Pupils may also have opportunities to take part in clubs and wider activities outside the compulsory school day.
