At Trinity, children begin their school journey in an environment where relationships matter, routines provide security and curiosity is encouraged. We want every child to feel that they belong, while developing the confidence and foundations they need to learn and grow.

A warm start for every child
Starting school is a significant step. Every child arrives with their own personality, experiences and confidence, and we take time to help them feel secure and ready for school life.
Reception at Trinity is warm, calm and purposeful. Caring relationships and clear routines help children settle, while growing independence and curiosity prepare them for learning.
Learning through curiosity, language and play
Reception gives children opportunities to explore, ask questions, communicate, imagine, create and begin building the knowledge they will use throughout school.
Structured teaching sits alongside purposeful play and exploration, helping children develop strong foundations while retaining the excitement and curiosity that make the early years distinctive.
Communication and language
Children are encouraged to listen, talk, ask questions, share ideas and use new vocabulary.
Rich conversations, stories and everyday interactions help children develop the language and confidence they need to communicate and learn successfully.
Reading and early writing
Reading has a strong place in our Early Years provision. Children experience stories, develop their phonics knowledge and begin building the early reading and writing skills that support future learning.
We want children not only to learn how to read, but to discover the enjoyment, imagination and possibilities that books can bring.
Mathematical confidence
Children develop their understanding of number, pattern, shape and mathematical ideas through teaching, play and everyday experiences.
Opportunities to practise and revisit learning help children become increasingly confident with early mathematical thinking.
Personal, social and physical development
Children learn how to build relationships, understand feelings, follow routines, make choices and develop increasing independence.
They also have regular opportunities to develop coordination, movement and physical confidence through indoor and outdoor experiences.
An environment designed for discovery
Our Early Years environment supports children to explore, create, build, listen, speak, count, read, move and play together.
Resources and activities are used purposefully to spark imagination, encourage conversation and help children revisit and strengthen their learning. Staff guide children carefully, supporting them to concentrate, persevere, try new things and develop positive relationships.
As their confidence grows, children are encouraged to make choices, follow routines, look after themselves and others, and become increasingly independent.
Strong foundations, growing independence: children are supported to develop knowledge and confidence while gradually taking greater responsibility for themselves and their learning.
Working with families
Parents and carers know their children best, and strong relationships between school and home help children make a positive start.
We work with families so that children feel prepared for Reception and parents feel informed, reassured and involved in their child’s learning and development.

Reception is the beginning of something bigger.
As one school from Reception to Year 11, Trinity gives children the opportunity to grow within a community where relationships, confidence, character and ambition develop over time.
The foundations established in Early Years support children as they progress through Primary and prepare for the opportunities and increasing independence of Secondary school.
