Governance at Trinity
The governing body provides strategic leadership and accountability for Trinity Church of England School.
Governors work with school leaders to support Trinity’s vision, provide challenge and help ensure that pupils across our Primary and Secondary phases receive a high standard of education, care and support.
The role of the governing body
The governing body has an important strategic role in the life of the school. Governors work collectively to:
- provide strategic oversight of the school
- support and challenge school leaders
- monitor and evaluate the school’s effectiveness
- promote the interests of the school and its pupils
- oversee the effective use of school resources
- help ensure accountability to pupils, families, the community, the Diocese, the Local Authority and Ofsted
Governors are also involved in key areas of school decision making, including leadership appointments, curriculum oversight, school finances and formal panels where required.
Our governing body
Trinity’s governing body brings together people with different relationships to the school and its wider community.
It includes the Executive Headteacher, elected parent and staff governors, a Local Authority governor, a co opted governor and Foundation governors.
Foundation governors are appointed through the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education, East Lewisham Deanery and Good Shepherd PCC, reflecting Trinity’s identity as a Church of England school.
Governor structure
The governing body includes:
- the Executive Headteacher
- one elected staff governor
- two elected parent governors
- one governor nominated by the Local Authority
- one co opted governor
- eight Foundation governors
Parent and staff governors are elected by their respective communities. The governing body may also use skills audits to identify experience and expertise that will strengthen governance.

The full governing body meets formally during the school year. Detailed work is also undertaken through committees and groups.

Other groups and panels are convened when required, including those relating to staff pay, Executive Headteacher objectives, behaviour and appeals.
